Surface Protection Tapes
→ Protect the Finish Before It Costs You the Job

A scratch on a stainless steel elevator panel, a scuff on an aluminium composite façade sheet, a mark on a powder-coated enclosure - none of it happens during design. It happens during fabrication, handling, transit and installation. Surface protection film is the cheapest insurance in the entire manufacturing chain, and Print Impex supplies it ex-stock from Mumbai.

Low tack polyethylene protection film is a self-adhesive polyethylene layer with a deliberately weak adhesive system. It sticks well enough to stay put through cutting, bending, drilling, stacking, wrapping and transport, and then peels off cleanly in one piece leaving no residue, no ghosting and no adhesive transfer onto the finished surface.

→ Stock Specification
  • Colours: Clear, Blue, Black and White
  • Thicknesses: 30 micron, 40 micron, 50 micron
  • Standard roll size: 1250 mm x 100 metres
Other widths are available by slitting from master rolls to suit your sheet or coil width. Tell us the panel dimension and we will supply the matching width so you are not trimming waste on every sheet.

→ Choosing Thickness
  • 30 micron
Light-duty protection for interior handling, short-term storage and finished goods that will not see abrasive processing. The economical choice where the film only needs to survive packing and delivery.
  • 40 micron
The general-purpose middle grade. Handles routine fabrication such as shearing, bending and light machining, with better puncture resistance and easier peel-off in a single strip.
  • 50 micron
Heavy-duty protection for aggressive processing, extended outdoor storage, deep drawing and panels that will be handled repeatedly on site. The extra body means the film resists tearing when peeled from a large panel.

→ Choosing Colour
  • Clear
Lets you see the surface underneath. Essential when the operator needs to verify grain direction, check for defects before dispatch, or read markings printed on the substrate. Preferred for quality inspection workflows.
  • Blue
The industry standard for metal and ACP. Highly visible against most substrates, so no panel accidentally reaches installation with the film still attached. Blue also signals clearly to the site team that the film must be removed.
  • Black and White
Co-extruded or opaque films are used where light must be blocked. They protect UV-sensitive substrates during outdoor storage, or the white face reflects heat to keep the panel and adhesive cooler in transit.

→ Substrates and Applications
  • Stainless steel and mild steel sheet
Protects brushed, mirror and patterned finishes through laser cutting, punching, bending and welding fixtures.
  • Aluminium composite panels (ACP/ACM)
The single largest application in India. Facade cladding, signage panels and interior panelling all ship with protection film applied at the mill or fabricator.
  • Powder-coated and pre-painted sheet
Guards the coating through fabrication and installation. Correct low tack selection matters here because an over-tacky film can pull at a soft or partially cured coating.
  • Acrylic and polycarbonate sheet
Protects against scratches during cutting, routing and drilling.
  • Glass and mirror
Temporary protection during handling, glazing and building finishing works.
  • Anodised and mill-finish aluminium extrusions and profiles
Used for window and door systems, curtain wall members and architectural sections.
  • Plastic sheet and moulded parts
Protects injection-moulded housings, vacuum-formed components and finished plastic panels.
  • Furniture and laminate panels
Protects high-gloss and decorative laminate surfaces through assembly and delivery.

→ What "Low Tack" Actually Means

Adhesion is a balance. Too little and the film lifts at the edges, catches on machinery and peels off in transit, leaving the surface exposed at exactly the wrong moment. Too much and the film either tears into strips on removal or leaves adhesive residue that has to be cleaned off with solvent, defeating the purpose entirely.

Low tack protection films are formulated so peel strength stays stable rather than climbing over time. Some cheap films build adhesion steadily as the adhesive wets out into the surface, so a film that peeled easily on day three becomes almost unremovable by month three. This is the most common complaint in the category, and the reason we supply films with controlled adhesion build.

→ Practical Guidance
  • Apply to a clean, dry surface
Dust and moisture trapped under the film create pressure points and can mark the substrate.
  • Apply with even pressure and no wrinkles
A roller or laminating nip gives the best result. Air pockets cause uneven adhesion and localised over-adhesion at the edges.
  • Observe the removal window
Most low tack PE films are designed for up to six months indoors. Extended outdoor exposure, particularly to direct sunlight and heat, accelerates adhesive migration and makes clean removal harder.
  • Store rolls correctly
Keep rolls in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight, standing on end or on a core rack rather than lying compressed on a flat surface.
  • Peel at a low angle, slowly
Fast, high-angle peeling increases the chance of the film tearing and of static build-up on plastic substrates.
  • Do not apply over freshly coated surfaces
Let paint and powder coatings cure fully before applying protection film.

→ Frequently Asked Questions
How long can the film stay on the panel? -

Standard low tack PE films are designed for indoor use for up to around six months. Outdoor exposure shortens this considerably. Confirm your storage conditions with us before ordering.

Will it leave residue? +

Not when the correct grade is used within its intended removal window and on a suitable substrate. Residue almost always traces back to over-tacky film, extended exposure or an incompatible surface.

Can I get custom widths? +

Yes. We slit to your required width from master rolls.

Is the film printable? +

Custom-printed protection film carrying your company name or handling instructions can be arranged on indent. Contact us with your volume.

Do you supply for outdoor storage of facade panels? +

Yes, but the grade must be chosen for UV exposure. Tell us the expected storage duration and we will recommend accordingly.
